The Berz Story

In 1947, Milt Berz, Sr. started teaching people how to fly at the grass airstrip on his farm. As his flight school and airport grew, he named it Birmingham-Berz Airport.

In 1972, Mr. Berz and his son, Milt Jr., sold the airport to Oakland County, which renamed the facility Oakland/Troy Airport.

Milt Berz, Jr. used the proceeds from the sale to purchase property in Macomb Township and built the Berz-Macomb Airport.

Berz Flying Service continued the tradition of teaching safe pilots until 2003, when the Macomb airport was sold to a developer. After a brief period of operation at its original Troy location, the Berz instructors moved the new Berz Flight Training Inc. to its current home at Ray Community Airport.
